Aspheric Multifocal Magnifying Glass
Normal eye can see near objects because there is a short focus on the retina when the ciliary muscle is contracted and refracting power of the crystalline lens is increased. However, the aging process decreases elasticity of the crystalline lens, which means the refracting power does not increase and consequently a blurring of near vision occurs. As accommodation power decreases as part of presbyopia progress, people need two eye glasses for distance and near vision.  
Reading glasses are custom-made for individuals, meaning that they use single vision lenses. As reading glasses are designed for only near vision, they should be taken off to gaze distant objects. Wearing reading glasses for long hours may cause head ache and eye strain. A magnifier is an optical device designed to produce an image of object enlarged to a certain ratio and used by people who are experiencing presbyopia. However, a high magnification ratio can cause optical distortion and reduce clarity, resulting in a disparity between central and peripheral vision and eventually eye fatigue

What's an aspheric lens?

 Conventional lenses are spherical although they vary depending on type and design. These spherical lenses are widely used because they are easy to produce at a low cost. However, spherical aberration is caused by lens design, and this effect becomes more significant in the periphery of the lens.  
 Aspheric lens was alternatively developed to eliminate spherical aberration. Given its shape that is neither spherical nor cylindrical, it is called aspheric lens. Aspheric lens designs reduce optical distortion and provide more natural view of the world no matter where your gaze is directed.

What is a multifocal lens?

 A multifocal lens comprises an upper distance vision portion and a lower near vision portion of different refractive index. Bifocal or trifocal lenses are not considered aesthetic because boundaries between different refractive powers are easily seen. Also those boundaries cause image jumps in the visual field. Multifocal lenses overcome these disadvantages by utilizing several glasses with different refractive indices without boundaries and provide clear vision in all directions. Consecutive changes in refractive state reduces image jumps in the visual field and dizziness without causing a gap of blurry vision and chromatic aberration.  Boundary-less also makes multifocal lenses aesthetic. However, the intermediate vision portion is narrow, and the near vision portion is smaller, compared with other portions of the lens. Severe flickering sensation occurs as a result of distortion and astigmatism in the lateral blending region, and wearers usually take some time to get used to the lenses.
